In this article, previous studies on withdrawals and leaves of absence from institutions of higher education are reviewed by category of their research fields: entrance examination and deviation score, first-year experience and “involuntary” admission to a second-choice university, professional universities, UPI(University Personality Inventory),adaptation to university life, leave of absence, support systems provided by universities, and others. As a result of this review, our findings are that some studies present measures to prevent student withdrawal and leave of absence; however, verifications or descriptions of their effectiveness remain unclear.
